Dear Supporters,

     I want to thank each and every one of you for the tremendous support that was graciously shown for the past week! To see so many people who are "in my corner" and who are willing to forgive me was such a blessing! I cannot describe with words the heartfelt appreciation that I have for you! Even if you are someone who was not able to be at court, but lifted me up in prayer and supported me from where you were, may I say a humble thank-you!

     The forgiveness that has been shown to me for my choices has been and is overwhelming. Looking into many eyes that I have harmed was both devastating as well as therapeutic for me. For the first time since my undeniably terrible actions I saw those whom I've harmed the most: namely those who represented YCOA and Josh's family. My sorrow was multiplied. My most heartfelt and sincere remorse and apology goes out to them again. For those who have chosen to forgive me, I thank you. I bear full responsibility for my actions as well as everything that happened. As I was reading today, I came across this quote that I am trying to live by: "Blame looks to the past, which can't be changed; but responsibility looks to the future, which can be taken care of and managed by the grace of God." I do not blame anyone else: I take full responsibility and I hope, but the grace of God, to create a better future for all those who I've harmed.

     Your understanding, love, commitment, and support are humbly, gratefully, and undeservingly received. May God bless you!

Hello!

     Well, I hope that you had a wonderful celebration of our Savior's birth. Now the end of the year is near and I would like to wish each of you a Happy New Year!

     I also wrote a poem that I would like to share as we close out the year 2009 and the first decade of the new millennium. Although it was written as a daily thought, I believe it can also be used on a larger scope. I hope that it will cause everyone to think and help us as we begin a new day, year, and decade:

The End of the Day

Another day is over, another day is done:
Another of the rising and setting of the sun.
The day to you has been given and now its course is fun.
What did you accomplish? What did you do for fun?
It's called "The Present" because each day's a gift.
How did you use your time? Did it through your fingers slip?
Are we using what's been given to be the best that we can be?
Or are we sitting still and idle like the stump of a rotted, old tree?
Every day should include work and sleep and play:
There's a time and place for everything in each and every day.
But when we aren't trying our very best,
Can we expect any different from any of the rest?

Hello and Happy Holidays!

     I never have been one to be politically correct, so I also want to say Merry Christmas! And Happy New Year! This is my favorite time of the year. I hope that, despite our economy and other hardships that you may be facing, you will have the joy that only Christ can give in your life! There is a ton of rushing, hustling, and bustling at this time of year, but let me encourage you to take a moment amid all the distraction to remember who and what we are really celebrating. I am disappointed that the season of peace has caused so many riots and such. Anyways, Merry Christmas to you and your family.

     As we come to the close of a new year, I look back and reflect on the past year. So much has happened, and the time has gone so quickly. One person I know said, "Where does the time go? And more importantly, what are we doing with it?" That is a very wise question. Neither you nor I will ever get this past year back. Did we use it for good? Let's pray that the year 2010 will be a year that each of us will serve our Lord as well as others with all of our hearts. The world may look bleak, but you and I can make a difference, a positive impact, wherever we are. Happy New Year! :)

     I hope that you like the new design and layout of the website! My brother, Joshua, is a genius and has done a wonderful job! By the way, if you have any computer work that needs to be done, he can do it and will charge much less that what other retail computer stores charge. I am very grateful for all of the support that I have received. Thank you!

Hello All,
     Well here is the letter that you all have been waiting for. Until now, I have not been allowed to say anything and even now I cannot say all that I would like to say. I will not sugar-coat this in any way. I have many friends who will read this and probably not a few of you who make no claim to be my friend will read this. This letter is written to you both, and to all who have any interest in anything that I have to say.
     For those of you who keep up on news, you will probably already know some, or most, of this. On Friday, October 30th, I came to a deal with the Maricopa County prosecutor. I was, in the beginning, charged with 1st degree murder and arson, which are class 1 and 2 felonies. If I was convicted of those charges, the absolute minimum amount of time that I would have spent in the Department of Corrections would have been 25 years. Instead of going to trial, where I believe that I would have lost, the prosecutor allowed me to plead guilty to Manslaughter and Arson which are both class 2 felonies. By doing this, the maximum amount of time I can receive is 21 years.
     I want to take this time to say how sorry I am. There are probably many people who want me to give details. In time, I may do that. But, in my mind, it makes no difference. The details do not change my wrongness, they do not change my sorrow or repentance, and they do not change how many lives have been hurt by what I partook in. The details do not matter. I was wrong, very wrong. And I am very sorry.
     Many questions that people ask me I do not even know the answer to, but I do know how much I have let you down: my family, my friends, my students, my community, and even myself. I have disappointed everyone, and shocked a lot of you. Again, I am sorry. The words that I have in my vocabulary cannot express the deep remorse that I have. I hope and pray that when I get out I will be able to give back to everyone all that I have taken.
     The place that I am at in my life is not one that I ever thought I would be at. I am not proud of anything that I have done. I beg of each of you to please continue to pray for me. I know that I do not deserve even your thoughts, let alone your prayers. If you can find it in your heart, I also ask for your forgiveness. Again, I know that I do not deserve it, but I ask for mercy.
     It has come to my attention that some of my letters on this webpage have misled at least one of you. I assure you that I did not have that intention. I was strictly warned not to say anything on my website that would insinuate guilt. I was only trying to follow the requests of my attorney. I believe that the two chief comments that I made were understood differently than the way I intended were:
(1)"I'm not guilty of what they are charging me with", and (2) "The real story will come out"
     Again, I will apologize. The first comment was said for two reasons. First, I did not understand the laws regarding the case I was/am involved in. Second, I was trying to say, without saying, that I was guilty of other crimes, but not murder and arson in relationship to my case. The second comment was said because many of the so-called "facts of the case" reported in the news by the media were not true. For example, my alleged "embezzlement plot" had absolutely nothing to do with the fire. That issue had been and has been taken care of by an agreement with YCOA that was reached two days prior to any of the horrible events that followed. But as I said, those details do not matter. I accept responsibility for what I have done, and beg for mercy and grace.
     Thank you for all of your care and support. If you no longer care to support me, I completely understand and wish you all the best. For those of you, if there are any who will still stand beside me, I will be most appreciative. I am walking with the Lord now, and can only hope and pray for the best.

Aloha!

October is gone. I guess it is true that the older I get, the faster time flies! At this point, I would venture to say that it is a good thing. My opinion may change on that in 30 years when I am receiving the gift of grey hair, though. How are y'all today? I'm doing well; except when I awoke this morning, my brain thought that I had no hands or arms. I had slept on top of both arms in an attempt to keep them warm, and in the process cut off blood circulation. So they were completely numb, but are doing just dandy now. :) This week has been good. I went to court on Monday and got nothing substantial accomplished. In fact, we got so little accomplished that I am going back to court on Friday. So I hear it was down in the 40 degree temperatures in Phoenix?! Exactly who is promoting global warming? I probably should not say that because I know absolutely nothing about the subject, but still :) Well, you better believe God is still blessing me immensely! I was able to see one of the men here in the "pod" trust in Christ as his Savior! That was way cool! Each and every one of your prayers is felt and appreciated. The Bible says "the effectual prayer of a righteous man availeth much" - meaning God hears when we pray. I pray for you daily as well. I desire to be with you again as soon as possible. I want you to have a happy week filled with peace, joy, love, and blessing!

Hello, hello!

     How are y'all doing today? I hope you're all doing well and having a great day! As you probably know, every day is a gift - that is why it's called the Present! :) A thankful attitude can definitely change one's entire life. Many of you know this, but my favorite saying is this: I do not care if my glass is half empty or half full, I am just so thankful to have a glass with something in it!
As for me, how am I doing? Well, I must say that I am awake, alive, alert, joyous, and grateful for this day! This week, as not much has happened, I would like to share a story with you that I really liked. If you enjoy it, feel free to share it with someone else.

Two Wolves

One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people
He said, "My son, the battle is between two "wolves" inside us all.
One is Evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.
The other is Good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith."

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, "Which one wins?"

The old Cherokee simply replied, "The one you feed."

Greetings!

     Somehow the week sped by and I didn't get this written yesterday, so it's going to be a bit late. I apologize. Time flies when you're having fun. I don't know what my excuse is, though :P
I hope you have had a great week! I hear the weather is cooling down. It's getting to the part of the year when we all remember why we actually like Arizona. Up north, from what I hear, it has already snowed! I miss the snow, I really do.

     My week has been awesome. Another church service is now available, so that is a blessing. For Columbus Day, we had an excellent dinner! It was the best meal I've had in 4 months! Today, as I am writing this, it's been exactly 4 months. Can you believe that? It's already half-way through October! Before we know it, Christmas will be here! Anyone shopping, yet?

     Nothing has happened in the case. Just more waiting, but God gives the grace to endure. We'll see what happens on the 26th. That is my next court date.

     Again, I just want you to know how thankful I am for all of your support. It's not easy being here, but all the support helps immensely!

Hey!

How are you doing today? I pray that you are having a blessed day! My week has been good. As usual, there are many things to be thankful for. God is so good! Nothing with much significance or bearing has happened this week. My age increased a number. For those of you who sent cards and did other things to make my birthday special, Thank You! My faith is daily tested and strengthened. Several people have asked me if I feel older. Well, out of all the years that I have been asked that, this year was the closest to me stating "Yes" :)

     I know many, if not all, of you are still in a martial arts class of some style or another. That makes me very happy! I do want to let you know that, as I was talking to my brother the other day, we talked about the DVDs that I had made. For those of you that would like to stay fresh on your Katas or are not attending a karate class, and still want to practice, or whatever the reason may be: the DVDs are still available. They are a great training tool. Remember there are 3 DVDs available right now. DVD 1 teaches Katas 1-3. DVD 2 teaches Katas 4-6. DVD 3 teaches 7-8 as well as going through the 15 blocks, strikes, and kicks needed for the brown belt test. If you would like to purchase one of these DVDs, just send my brother an E-mail.      Wow! A week passed again! I hope you had a blessed week like me! I was asked "How's it going?" today. I do not know where I got it from, but my reply was "Well, you know life's like a rollercoaster at the fair: it's a ton of fun, but it makes you sick sometimes, too!" I thought it was mildly clever. It was probably funnier than my "why did the turkey cross the road" joke from the other week. :)

     Life is good, God is still in control, and I praise Him for that! It appears as though I'll be spending my birthday this year behind bars, except there are no bars here, so a more appropriate way to say that would be "behind walls" :) I really have never been one to do a lot on my birthday, anyway, so I can't complain. Last year I think I worked all day, and the year before that, I competed in the Golden Dragon tournament, demoed in Surprise, and then slept. As you can see, I'm quite the partier! On the upside, this year I don't have to work and can relax ;)

     No new developments in the case that I am aware of. But I'm probably the last to know if there are. I have a court date on the 28th that you probably know about already. Thank you for your continued prayers! They are very much appreciated!

Hey!

     Another week is past and we are already a good part of the way done with September! I know, I know where did the month go?! I remember, as a kid, September was always the slowest month of the year. The reason for this is, if you don't already know, that the very last day of September is a special day for me. So in anticipation of the 30th of each September, the month would seem to crawl. The older I get, though, the faster the time seems to fly!

     The past week has been a good week. My attorney came in Friday, I had a surprise visit from one of the chaplains, and today my attorney's assistant came in. There is not a lot that I can share with you, but I will say two things. (1) Contrary to the popular opinion of the wonderful media, there is not a very high chance of me going to prison for the next 20 years! (2) The way AZ law is written, I believe we have a serious fault in our system. Thank God that He is still in control! God demonstrated His power just yesterday when I was called spontaneously to see one of the chaplains here. She told me that even though she didn't know my name, God had put me heavily on her heart, and so she came to see me and pray with me! I was so in awe of the goodness of the Lord! The chaplain had seen me 10-15 times as I sat in her classes, so although she knew my face, she did not know my name. I found it funny that when she asked the guards for me, she affectionately asked to see "the redhead". :) Yes, I'm the only one here.

     Thank you so much to all who have written character letters for me! We are still accepting them, but as soon as possible is the best time to get one in, if you desire to do so. I believe the guidelines are on the site already, so I won't go over them again, but I do want to say thank you to all who've helped. You're support means the world to me! :) Also, don't forget that I am also very grateful for all the other ways that you've shown your support! Thank you!

How are y'all doing? I'm praying that you've had a wonderful week! I pray for you every day, asking God to bless all those who have my back during this time and also asking blessing upon those who are not happy with me! :)

     My week has been pretty good. Nothing really new to talk about. I have not heard from my attorney in several weeks. I'm praying that no news is good news. I know my next court date is September 28th, other than that, nothing.

     Surely there are more exciting things going on that reading this note. So in an attempt to make this reading a bit more interesting: Who knows why the turkey crossed the road? No, not to get to the other side. The turkey went because it was the chicken's day off. Ok, I know, that wasn't funny :)

     On a more spiritual note: God is still blessing my life immensely! If you've never done so, or at least not in a while, read the book of James in the Bible. It's a very good book. Of course, the whole Bible is good!

     I want to remind you how thankful I am for all your prayers and various support! I fully believe the reason I have been so blessed is because of your support and prayers!

Hey!

     Well, we're into September; another month has passed. This past has been so much better than the previous month. In case you are not sure why I said that, I will explain. During the month of July all of the jails in Maricopa County were under complete lock-down. In other words, I was with another guy in a 6'x14' cell 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. That was a trying month, but it is over and seems like forever ago.

     I hope, for your sakes, the temperature is going down. Last I heard, it was still like 114 degrees, which is far too hot for my taste! But it should be cooling back down to the weather we all love soon. :)

     As of the 27th of August, my younger brother, Josh, whom many of you know, turned 18 years old. Speaking of Josh, I was talking to him a few days ago. He read me the newest comments on the site. You guys are awesome!

     God has blessed me so much, and you and your encouragement are just so amazing and appreciated! There were a couple of comments that were not as uplifting, but I desire to know the thoughts of everyone. My gratitude to you who have stood by me through this is immeasurable. Please know that I pray God blesses you for blessing me! (I also ask God to bless those who have cursed me) May God be glorified in all I say and do.

     Please keep me in your prayers. I look forward to the day I can see you once again. Maybe we can have a party or something. Who knows?! :)

     Well I hope everyone had a fantastic week! Can you believe it's been a week already? I hope y'all like the updates. So, how pathetic is it that the Diamondback's first win in the last 8 games makes the first page of the paper?! I mean, seriously! On the up side (for me at least), my Colorado Rockies are doing wonderfully! They are slowly catching up to the Dodgers, and well ahead in the Wild-card chase. But, then again, I'm probably only one of a few who find any comfort in that. But, hey, with the most errors in baseball, the D-backs are not going to do much for anyone in the comfort area! Oh, and in other sports: will the retired football players please stay retired?! I mean, I don't want to mention any names cough Farve cough But are you kidding?! 3 times?! I've seen 12 year olds who are more decisive about their careers! But enough of that, spotlight hogs will always be just that.

     I've received some very nice postcards this week. Thank you to those that sent them! I write each person back, so when you write, please make sure to include a return address. For some reason I never was able to memorize my students' addresses. Possibly cause I never tried...hmmm..:) As always, your prayers are felt, so from the bottom of my heart: Thank you! You are great!

     I've decided that I desperately need a hair cut, as it is fully covering my ears now. As much as I'm sure I will never be able to pull of the pony-tail look, part of me wants to let it keep growing. But this weekend it is going bye-bye, I think. You are all getting back into school mode, aren't you? Ahh! It starts earlier each year. Please, kids, try to keep those grades up, or I'm sure I can still find a way to issue pushups from here ;) Parents, enjoy your mornings!

Well howdy, howdy!

     I hope you've had a spectacular day today! Also, if you are reading this: thank you! It has been more than 10 weeks, the news has swirled, and you are still checking back 2 1/2 months later to see how I am. You are great! Thank you so much!

     Last month my brother challenged me to do 80 pushups in less than 2 minutes. As of last week, I met and exceeded that goal by doing 80 pushups in just over 1 minute. I have gained weight for the first time in ages! But doing a minimum of 420 pushups a day will help with that. :) It gives me something to do at least! Of course, crunches and other working out takes some time, too. By the way, I have a fun and cool new way to do pushups for my advanced students. I'll implement that when I am able to start classes back up!

     As most of you probably know, I try to find the positive in all situations. I would like you all to know that while it is 120 degrees outside, I am at a cool 73 degrees! (I do miss the out doors, though) Ah, yes! It will be a very good day when I get out!

Hello!

     I was sitting on my top bunk in my cell the other day, when I realized you might want some sort of update from me. Furthermore I thought you may want some communication more than every 6 weeks apart! Then, for those of you who are busy and just want to know what�s going on, you can just check the site. If you have sent me a postcard, don't worry, I will still write you directly. But this should be more convenient for you if you cannot contact me directly.

     So how are you? I'm doing pretty well! Nothing much has changed here. I just love this "hurry up and wait" game :D God is good and is taking care of me. I had a court date on Thursday, August 13, 2009. Basically it was a 2 minute deal that was a 9 hour ordeal for me. They wake us up at 4am to go to court. I get in front of the judge some time between 8:30am and 12pm. Then get back to my cell around 4-5pm. Other than that, I'm getting really good at spades, dominoes, card tricks, and solitaire. (Do you have any idea how long the game of solitaire takes when you use real cards? Ah, how computers have spoiled us. There is no F2 when using real cards:D) Reading my Bible, praying, and studying/reading different books occupy most of my waking hours. Of course, you know eating is also a good pastime for me. ;) Once you get in a routine, it;s like living in a monastery. (Which I;ve always been curious to try) There is definitely a bright side to everything! Oh, and no bills is nice, too. Of course, I miss you all, and I;m eagerly anticipating getting out of here. But no reason to mope around!

     I hope you are still practicing and working out. Especially my adult students, you better not have quit! :D Quitters never win and winners never quit. That's not an original statement. I wonder who should be credited with those words. Anyways, they are true! So keep it up! (Or get started again!)

     Well, like I was saying at the beginning, I'll try to keep an updated letter on here. Bi-weekly, at least, maybe weekly, I'll write a new one with all my exciting details. :D Thank you so much for your support in any of the various ways you have been!

Hey, everyone!

     I hope when you read this, everything is going well for you! I miss you very much! I hope to be able to with you all again soon, but from what I understand, it could take a while. Things happen very slowly around here. I am overall doing well. Doctors have been telling me for years to rest, and I am able to do that now, although I do work out every day. I hope you are still practicing as well! Even if you have to go to a new teacher for a while, I hope you have not stopped learning just because I'm not teaching right now.

     I have talked to some of you directly, but mostly I communicate through my family. I do receive each and every comment that you submit on this site! Thank you for all your love and support! If you have posted a negative comment, thank you for your feedback, as well. I do care how everyone feels - both good and bad. From talking with my family, I understand that many of you have asked "what can I do to help?" I was encouraged by several people to let others know what they can do, so I will oblige. Here are the top five things you can do -if you want

     (1) Pray. Obviously God is in control. No matter what happens, to God be the glory, but please keep me in your prayers.

     (2) Mail. In the environment I am in, each and ever letter is treasured. I can only receive pre-posted post cards (31c at the post office), but a simple post card can do so much to brighten my day!

     (3) Encourage my family. I feel at times that my family and friends are going through more than I am. They only know as much as you do, so any encouragement is appreciated.

     (4) Visits. I am allowed three, half-hour visits per week. If you would like to come see me, please coordinate your visit with my family to make sure you're able to get in.

     (5) Money. I am given only two meals per day here, so it is nice to have funds available to purchase other food. I am able to order food, toiletries, and such once a week. These items are priced slightly higher than a convenience store. I will not say how much a good amount is. If you want to contribute, any amount is fine! I trust God to supply all my needs.

     If you decide to help in any of these was, or another way that is not mentioned: Thank you very much. I appreciate it so much! I do ask that if you do any of these things, please let me know who you are so I can thank you personally. If you write, please include a return address, so I can write you back!

Hello to everyone!

     Let me begin by quoting a verse from Romans chapter 8 verses 38-39: "For I am persuaded that neither death, nor life, not angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord". (KJV)

     I would like to thank every single one of you who have prayed for me, dropped me an encouraging line, helped financially, or have sent me a post card during the past 3 weeks. Your love, prayer, and encouragement have meant so much to me! I am so blessed of God to be surrounded with wonderful folks like you. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart!

     Romans 8:28: "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose". (KJV) I know that as I strive to please God, He will watch over me. With God's protective hand, and my family and friends, my time here should be a growing and learning experience - nothing bad at all.

For those of you who have asked why I have not posted negative comments, there are two reasons: (1) This site is being used as a means of support for Jon, and (2) Jon's legal council has recommended that we not allow negative comments to be posted on the site. However, Jon is receiving all comments, both positive and negative. Jon would like to thank each and every one of you for your prayers and support. At the moment Jon cannot give anyone, even myself, any details about the case. Because some of his statements have been twisted during this process, Jon has been advised by his attorney to simply say nothing. However, Jon said that he will explain everything in detail as soon as he is able.
